Replacement Handles For Windows
Window handles are among the most frequently used components of double-glazed windows. As time passes, they may get rusty or worn out.
To replace a UPVC window handle you need to know the spindle length of the handle you have currently and also the fixings. The best method to do this is by looking at the base of the handle you have previously replaced.
Handle
Over time, uPVC window locks and handles may be damaged due to wear and tear, or accidental or deliberate damage. It is possible that the lock or handle becomes difficult to close or open or not even locked. It could be tempting to replace the entire window unit if this happens, but it is not always required. Most of the time, it's the scenario that a replacement handle or lock is sufficient.

The espagnolette design is the most common uPVC window handle. It has a spindle that is affixed to the handle and slot into a gearbox that controls the multipoint locking mechanism in the window. It's important to match the appropriate handle and lock to your windows in order to ensure they work together correctly, which is why we have a wide variety of replacement handles for all kinds of uPVC windows.
It's a good idea, when replacing a uPVC handle, to use screw covers to protect the screws from corrosion and to keep them secure. Alternately, you can make use of a spacer or washer to allow for a tighter seal. Having a screw cap in place will also prevent water and debris from getting into the handle and causing damage.
After the handle is removed from the window it's an ideal idea to scrub the spindle of the new handle, and also the threaded portion of the bolt. This will ensure that the handle is fitted and functions correctly and also prevent dirt from entering the multipoint lock.
The next step is to install the uPVC handle. It is essential to follow the directions provided with the new handle and to take a look at the old one before you begin in order to have an idea of the correct way to go about it. The process is usually very simple. If you run into any issues not addressed in this guide, we suggest contacting our team to get more details.
It is also important to know that in the event that you are replacing the uPVC Cockspur (also called Espag handle), you will require the height of the steps of your window to determine the correct size handle. The steps height refers to the distance from the frame or base of the window up to where the nose of the cockspur handle is located when it is installed.

It's usually a straightforward fix that can be resolved with a set of replacement hinges. door handles of a hinge squeaking can be a sign that the hinges are worn out, and this is usually due to the rubbing of metal against. If the noise is still present, a small amount of lubricant can aid.
This is because plumb windows are capable of avoiding binding options. The operating sash is aligned with the frame so that the window will open and close properly. A window that isn't plumb could begin to open and close without difficulty, or it could become warped over time which can affect the seal and the appearance of the window.
When purchasing replacement upvc window hinges, you should be aware that they are available in imperial or the metric sizes. The sizes in metric are a little more precise, however this isn't really noticeable when they are put in. The first corner fixing holes on the track and arm are standard size but the others may differ in length based on the hardware that was originally used. We recommend that you measure the hole spacings on your frame prior to purchasing any hinges made of upvc in order to be sure that they are of the correct dimensions.
Crank
The normal wear and tear that happens over time can cause damage to the window handle, lock or crank mechanism. This can make it more difficult to open and close your windows. It could also affect their security. If your window is difficult to open or close, or if you hear a clicking sound when turning the handle it could indicate you need to replace the mechanism. If you're unable to close your window or the multipoint locks are broken, then it might be worth replacing this part as well.
A new window crank can be replaced with minimal effort, but it's important to buy the correct size replacement. Make sure the replacement has the same step height as the old one, which can be determined by measuring the distance between the crank arm guide bushing and the notch that runs along the track running across the bottom of the window frame. You can also measure the spindle length on your current handle to determine the size of a replacement.
The type of handle you choose for your window will determine the type of crank mechanism that is required for your casement and windows with awnings. Espag handles are equipped with a mental spindle in the back that is attached to the frame of the window and drives the mechanism. Cockspur handles are fitted with pegs that are held in the frame by three or four screws which are set into the sash and frame.
Once you've identified the right replacement, it's simple to install. First, take off any trim mounting screws that are on the window's casement cover and carefully lift it up to reveal the insides of the window operator (Photo 1). Compare the new lever with the old one and take off any trim screws that have rusted. Then, attach the replacement to the window frame, replacing any screws that are rusted or bent, and then place the casement cover on top of the mechanism.
